Davidson is a partner in Creative Eye Consulting, specializing in visual therapy for the newsroom. Before leaving in January 2003, Davidson was assistant managing editor/photography and senior editor/visuals at The Dallas Morning News. He has worked at five other newspapers as a photographer and photo editor.
During his 18 years at The Dallas Morning News, the photography department won four Pulitzer Prizes and made significant contributions to two others. The department also won four Robert F. Kennedy Awards for photojournalism and 13 photographers won National Press Photographers Association regional Photographer of the Year awards in 15 years.
In addition, Davidson has won one Gold, three Silver and five Awards of Excellence from the Society for News Design for photo editing and design.
A graduate of the University of Missouri, he has been a visiting faculty member at The Poynter Institute, the American Press Institute and was an adjunct professor in visual journalism at Southern Methodist University and the University at North Texas for more than six years.
For many years Davidson has led and participated in workshops throughout the United States and has hosted a design and photography seminar in Mexico City for the past five years. He has been doing on-site newspaper visits throughout Latin America and the United States as well.
