Maria Mann


Maria Mann is managing editor of the European Pressphoto Agency, based in Frankfurt.

Previously, she was director of global current events at Corbis, in Paris. Before joining Corbis in 2003, Mann was director of photography for Agence France-Presse for North America, setting up and directing photo operations throughout North and South America. She also served as international editor-in-chief in Paris.

Mann began her career at United Press International’s world headquarters in New York and has also been director of photography of the Toronto Sun. She has twice been chair of the National Press Photographers Association’s Best of Photojournalism competition, and has also judged numerous other international photojournalism contests including Pictures of the Year and World Press. She has also done a series workshops in Latin America for the Knight Foundation as well as World Press, and the Pentagon Military Workshops.

Mann also worked closely with the Newseum in the United States, having co-curated several exhibitions and CD rooms. She is co-founder of the first national Digital Conference that later became Visual Edge at The Poynter Institute.

She is the recipient of the National Press Photographers’ Joseph Costa Award for "leadership and continuing service to photojournalists and photojournalism."
