Title: Reporting Across Platforms
Instructor: RTNDF, Julie Dodd, Judy Robinson, Victoria Lim

What will I learn? Explore the different approaches you need to report for online, print and broadcast stories. In Reporting Across Platforms, you’ll learn the strengths (and weaknesses) of each platform and how each can enhance your storytelling. And you’ll get one reporter’s first-hand analysis of stories told across platforms. In this course, you’ll learn:

  • The value of telling stories across platforms
  • The key differences in gathering information for print, broadcast and online
  • How information from sources is used in telling stories for each platform
  • To identify the writing styles and story structure for each medium
  • Who can help you gather appropriate content in each platform

Who should take this course? This course is for journalists with experience in one medium (print or broadcast) who want to tell stories in other platforms.

How long will it take? You can work through this self-directed course at your own pace. There are interactive elements and some video clips from news broadcasts. The total time to complete the course is about two to three hours in one session. You also can access the course sections in any order, starting and stopping at your convenience. And you can come back anytime once you enroll; it'll be waiting for you inside your My Courses list.
