About Online Group Seminars

In an online group seminar, you will gather with other participants in a virtual space, logging in from anywhere, day or night, over the course of several weeks. A faculty member guides the group through new material, moderates discussions and provides individual feedback.

Podcasting is, essentially, radio on demand. But with the means of production reduced to a voice recorder on a smartphone, a basic sound editing program, and a web hosting service (for as little at $15/month), everyone can now be a broadcaster — no radio station required and with worldwide distribution — for next to nothing.

If you are a budding journalist, a seasoned pro, an editor or news director with a team of amateurs and veterans, a business owner who could use promotion, a public relations specialist who works with businesses or just someone with a real passion for a topic — there’s really no reason not to launch a podcast.

With a virtually unlimited reach, podcasts broad and specific can find an audience with targeted social media promotion and — if your podcast is engaging, relatable and informative, and it follows the basic rules of broadcasting — you’ve got a real shot at attracting an audience without any additional help.

And there’s the rub. While the means of delivering radio broadcasts have changed with the arrival of podcasting, the same rules that make for engaging, relatable and informative broadcasting remain the same. Your podcast has a better chance of attracting and keeping listeners if you know the rules that radio laid out long ago.

And that’s what you will learn in this course, along with how to interview effectively, how to edit and produce a great sounding podcast, how to find and upload your work to a podcast hosting service, how to get that podcast on iTunes and other podcasting services and how to effective promote a podcast on social media.

Course Instructor:

Craig Kopp

Craig Kopp is general manager of WMNF-88.5 FM in Tampa Bay area. Craig has been a broadcaster and writer for over 40 years, with experience in radio, TV and print. Just since 1986, Craig figures he has conducted 10,000 interviews. During his days as a TV film critic and feature writer, he sometime did twelve 5 minute interviews a day. That’s where he began to hone his ideas on getting the most out of one of the reporter’s most important tools – the interview.
