To introduce students to how easily news stories can become biased, they will read the story, "Walter the Farting Dog" by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray and then write a fictional news account of the events. Working in groups, they will intentionally use the facts and quotes that support the view that Walter is a hero or villain. This is more suited to middle schoolers. Each group will be given a copy of the book to work with after the story is read aloud.

Students will be reminded to use the inverted pyramid to write their articles and a short review is provided.

A discussion of bias in the news will follow.
