Reporting Resources from the McCormick Foundation's Specialized Reporting Institutes

Looking for resources to help you cover key topics? Specialized Reporting Institutes, funded by the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, are designed to give you the expertise and training you need.

At the SRI events, you'll get story ideas you can develop right away as well as in the future, plus the sources and resources to report with confidence and context.

After each SRI, Poynter's NewsU will publish resource pages featuring sites and sources anyone can use to cover each of these critical topics. You'll find lists of experts, key blogs and social media, authoritative websites and more, gathered by the journalists, educators and others at each live SRI event.

Interested in offering an SRI event? Here is information about developing a Specialized Reporting Institute.

About SRIs
SRIs are designed to meet the growing need to provide journalists and others with subject-specific expertise and practical reporting training in key issues. (Here are previous SRI topics, hosts and locations.) An SRI is organized and administered by a non-profit host, which plans and carries out the program. The training event convenes a diverse group of journalists, often from small to mid-sized news organizations, plus educators, for a program lasting two to three days. Participants represent all media platforms, and grant funds cover all or most of participants’ travel, lodging and tuition.
