  • How much does the certificate program cost?

    The cost for each certificate is listed on the enrollment page.

  • When can I start to use Training Points?

    You can redeem Training Points as soon as you register at Poynter's NewsU. [You earn 100 points just by registering on the site.] You can start using Training Points with your first enrollment in a fee-based course. Educators can also use Training Points with their first download of teaching materials on the Syllabus Exchange.

  • When will my Training Points be posted to my account?

    Training Points are added to your account as soon as you register on the site, enroll in a course or share teaching resources in our Syllabus Exchange. You can see your points status by clicking on My NewsU.

  • Am I required to register for the certificate before taking the related courses?

    Yes, if you wish to have access to the assessments and the certificate.

  • How do I redeem Training Points?

    You can redeem Training Points whenever you make a purchase at NewsU. Every 100 Training Points are worth $1. Your points never expire. So you can redeem a few at a time, or you can save them and apply them for the full cost of a training module. You'll be able to choose how many you want to use on the Check-Out Page for every purchase.

  • What can I redeem Training Points for?

    You can use your Training Points for any fee-based training offered through Poynter's NewsU. Every 100 Training Points are worth $1. Educators can also use Training Points to download teaching materials on the Syllabus Exchange. To download a training resource, you will need 50 points [for each resource].

  • Is there a limit to the number of Training Points I can redeem at one time?

    There's no limit to the number of points in your account that you can redeem at one time. Your points never expire. So you can redeem a few at a time, or you can save them and apply them for the full cost of a training module. You'll be able to choose how many you want to use on the Check-Out Page for every purchase.

  • Can I buy, trade, give away or sell my Training Points?

    Points have no cash value, so they cannot be transferred in any way, bought or sold. You can only redeem them on the NewsU website for courses or products produced by Poynter’s News University.

  • Can I combine Training Points or member discounts?

    Training Points

    Training Points are tied to your account at Poynter's NewsU. If you forget your username and password and create a new NewsU account instead of contacting us for assistance on your existing, those Training Points stay with your previous account. Need help with your username and password? Go to www.newsu.org/user and click "Request New Password." Or click the Contact link at the top of any NewsU page.

    Member Discounts

    Poynter values its relationships with all of our training partners. To that end, members of many media organizations are eligible for discounts on our programs as a member benefit.

    Poynter also offers discounts on training through the Poynter Prepared Membership Program.

    However, these discounts cannot be combined if you are a Poynter member as well as a member of one of our participating partner organizations.

  • Can my colleagues or friends use my Training Points?

    No. Training Points are nontransferable.

  • Can I create a customized certificate for my classroom or organization?
